2017 Symposium Registration
Cal-IPC Members receive discounted registration. If you are not a current Cal-IPC Member, you can still receive the discounted rate by joining or renewing on your registration form. (The online form shows your current expiration date.)
Dates: Last day for early-bird pricing is Sept. 1. Last day for regular pricing is Oct. 15. After that, please register at the door.
Member: $320 early bird / $345 regular / $370 late
Non-Member: $370 early bird / $395 regular / $420 late
Student: $50 early bird / $65 regular / $80 late (in degree program or within 6 months after graduation)
Symposium Volunteer: $225 (4 hours of help at the event; limited spots available)
Presenter discount: $25 (one person per paper or poster)
Registration covers the DPR Laws and Regulations session Tuesday evening and all sessions Wednesday and Thursday. All meals provided Wednesday, and breakfast Thursday. Optional Tuesday trainings and Friday field trips have an additional charge (see below).
Refunds: A full refund will be given to requests received by Oct. 10. A partial refund of 50% will be given to requests received by Oct. 17. After Oct. 17 no refund will be given. To request a refund, email bmckinley(at)cal-ipc.org.DPR CEUs have been applied for: 2.0 "Laws & Regulations" for evening session on Oct. 24, 12.0 "Other" for sessions on Oct. 25 and 26, and 3.0 "Other" for each training on Oct. 24. CEUs are not offered for field trips.
Trainings:Calflora's Weed Manager [1:00-5:00pm, $50 Member/$75 Non-Member] Did you know you can map weeds on your smartphone, using a custom interface designed for your organization? That you can record details each time you treat a population? Calflora's Weed Manager is a suite of tools designed to do this and more. Calflora staff and current users will show you how it all works.
Invasive Plant Management 101 [1:00-5:00pm, $50 Member/$75 Non-Member] Are you new to the field of invasive plant management? Or have gaps in your understanding about how everything ties together? Here's your chance to get a solid foundation and learn about: how land managers identify, map and prioritize weeds; how weed biology affects weed control methods; the range of control tools at our disposal as part of the Integrated Pest Management toolbox; strategic approaches for program success; and more! Taught by experienced Cal-IPC field course instructors.Field Trips:
Joshua Tree National Park [7:30am-4:30pm, $50] Tour the park with NPS staff to learn about their invasive plant management in context with wildfire, nitrogen deposition, and historic landscape preservation. Participants will only walk short distances from vehicles.
Whitewater Preserve [7:30am-12:30pm, $25] Ten years of restoration have taken this area from a degraded state to being a candidate for National Wild & Scenic River designiation. Hike the canyon and hear about the invasive plant management that is protecting this rich riparian habitat. Participants will hike 4 miles.
Coachella Valley Preserve [7:30am-12:30pm, $25] Visit rare sand dune and palm oasis habitats with endangered species to hear about how invasive plant research and management has been designed to protect these special habitats. Participants will walk 3 miles on flat terrain.
